Mother’s Day in Argentina
In Argentina, Mother’s Day is traditionally celebrated on the third Sunday of October - in 2025, that will be October 19. Unlike most countries where the holiday falls in May, Argentina’s chosen date is rooted in Catholic tradition and reflects the country’s unique cultural sensibility.
Why October?
The origins of the celebration trace back to the Catholic liturgical calendar, where October is traditionally dedicated to the Mother of God - a day honoring the Virgin Mary as a symbol of motherhood, love, and protection. In 1931, Pope Pius XI established the Feast of the Mother of God on October 11, and Argentina, with its strong Catholic heritage, embraced October as the month to honor all mothers.
How is Mother’s Day celebrated in Argentina?
On this day, families traditionally gather together and prepare home-cooked lunches or dinners. Flowers, gifts, and sweets are given with love. A popular gesture - especially from children - is breakfast in bed, complete with flowers, a card, and something sweet. Even if a mother or grandmother lives separately, people make an effort to visit in person or at least call.
What to give on this special day?
We recommend choosing flowers based on your mother’s personal preferences, or opting for delicate seasonal spring bouquets. You can also gift a flower subscription, so the joy of receiving blooms continues not just on the holiday, but throughout the following month.
Important to know!
At the initiative of the World Health Organization, October 19 was established as the International Day for the Fight Against Breast Cancer, and the entire month has become a time of active awareness and prevention campaigns - known as "Octubre Rosa".
As part of this important movement, our partners have launched a special initiative: with every purchase of “Cerro Teta” chocolate, 100% of the proceeds will be donated to LALCEC and Hospital Austral, organizations that support women through diagnosis and treatment.
